Voter Verification

Voter verification is done in the election booths by the authorities. To prove your identity you have to carry some of the Identity proof documents with you. The election commission approved documents are

  • EPIC (Voter ID card)
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies
  • Passbooks with photographs issued by Bank/Post Office
  • PAN Card
  • Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR
  • MNREGA Job Card (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee)
  • Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour
  • Pension document with photograph
  • Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
  • Aadhaar Card

Nowadays election commission provides a booth slip that contains voters’ identity details in it to the voters. The electoral officers give it to voters before the election door by door. That slip is enough to cast your vote in any election conducted by the election commission of India.

Ink Mark

To prevent electoral fraud such as double voting voters are marked with Electoral Ink in their fingers. It is an effective method in India because the silver nitrate composition electoral ink is long-lasting for several weeks. Once your identity is verified by the election officers you have to get an ink mark on the index finger. Only after this process, you are allowed to cast your vote.

Cast the Vote

Nowadays Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is used by the election commission of India to collect the vote. It’s just an electronic machine with candidate details with separate buttons. You have to press the button which indicates the candidate’s photo, election symbol, and candidate’s name. Just one press is enough to cast your vote the EVM indicates you with a long beep sound, that the proof for your vote is collected.

Verify Your Vote

After you cast your vote you have a chance to verify your vote once, The extension of the EVM unit is a printer display that prints your casted vote details in the paper, Only you can see the printed slip in person. If the printer slip shows the correct vote you cast the voting process is done, If you see a wrong symbol in the printed slip you have to contact the election officer for the error and you have a chance to verify and re-poll your vote.

Electors Photo identity card (Voter Id Card)

All Indian citizens have a right to vote, vote the election commission gives unique identity cards (Voter Id Card) for this purpose. A citizen who has eligibility can apply through the online process and get the identity card within a week. If you enrolled for a new voted id once you fulfill the eligibility then only your name is added to the electoral roll voters List.

Polling Booth

Vote polling Booth is determined by your location. Usually, all educational institutions and government offices are set as a polling booth for all elections. The polling booth is secured by the national security and local police to ensure security. Polling officials are authorizes who conduct the election locally and help voters to cast their votes. Only the polling official can allow votes to the booth.
