PART – B
II. Short Answer:
11.Simplify: 199 + (-20) + (-11)
Answer:-
=199-20-11
= 199-33
= 166
12.An aero-plane is 5000 feet above the sea level. If it descends to 400 feetand it ascends to 300 feet then, what is its new position?
Answer:-
Initial Height = 5000 Feet
Descend Level = -400
Ascend Level = +300 feet
So,
= 5000-400+300
= 5000-100
=4900 Feet
Aero-Plane new position at 4900 feet
13.Niveditha earns Rs. 15000 every month. He spends Rs.8000 for all his family expenditures and Rs. 2800 for his vehicle loan. How much does he save every month?
Answer:-
Niveditha’s Earning = Rs 15000
Family Expenditure = Rs 8000
Vehicle Loan = Rs 2800
Remaining Balance = 15000-8000-2800
=15000-10800
=Rs 4200
14.If a= -70, b=4 and c=-10, verify a × (b × c) = (a × b) × c
Answer:-
a = -70
b = 4
c =-10
ax(bxc) = (axb)xc
LHS = a x (bxc)
bxc = 4x-10 =-40
ax(bxc) = -70x -40
ax(bxc) =2800…..(1)
RHS = (axb)xc
axb = -70 x 4 = -280
(axb)xc = -280 x -10
(axb)xc = 2800 …..(2)
From (1) and (2)
ax(bxc) = (axb)xc Hence Verified
15. The product of two integers is (- 145). One of them is 5. Find the other.
Answer:-
Product of two integers = -145
One of them =5
Another one be x
so,
5x x = -145
x = -145 / 5
x=-29
ie the Other number is -29
16.Find the value of x, y, z from the following.
x X [ y + (-6)] = [13 X (-19)] + [13 X z]
Answer:-
a x (b+c) = (axb) + (axc)
So, x = 13 , y=19 x=-6
PART – C
III. Write in detail:
17.One day temperature of some cities is given below:
City | Maximum Temperature | Minimum Temperature |
Ooty | 100C | -40C |
Shimla | 50C | -90C |
Kodaikkanal | 110C | -30C |
Yercaud | 120C | -20C |
From the above table:
(i) Find difference between maximum and minimum temperatures of Kodaikkanal
(ii) Find sum of the highest temperature and lowest temperature among the cities.
Answer:-
i) Difference = 11-3 = 80C
ii) Sum of Temperatures = 120C + (-90C)
= 12-9 = 30C
18.“Integers does not satisfy the associative property with respect to subtraction”.Justifyit.
Answer:-
Can you see that
{[(-2) – (-5)] – 3 } = {(c-2) – [-5-3]}
(-2+5)-3 = -2-(-8)
3-3 = -1+8
0 ≠ 6
Changing the order of integers in subtraction will not give the same value
Hence the associative property does not satisfy over integers with respect to substraction
19. Teacher asked Anjali to subtract (-30) from (-120). She answered immediately -150. Is she correct? What is the correct answer?

Answer:-
Total Amount = Rs 1200
Cost of Medicines = Rs 170
=Rs 285
=Rs 215
=Rs400

=1200-1070
=Rs 130
The Ramaining Balance is Rs 130
21.Ramu wrote a competitive examination which has scoring procedure as 2 marks for correct answer and (-1) marks for wrong answers. He had 30 correct answers and 20 wrong answers. How many marks did he score in the examination?
Answer:-
Score for correct answer = +2
Score for wrong answer = -1
Ramu’s Correct answer = 30 x(2)
= +60
Ramu Score wrong answer = 20x(-1)
=-20
The final Score = 60 +(-20)
=(60-20)
=40
40 Marks scored by Ramu in the Examination
